Jamaal Bowman was elected to Congress in 2020, representing New York’s 16th Congressional district. He was born and raised in New York City and lives in Yonkers with his family. He has been a lifelong educator, founding a Bronx middle school and serving as its principal for a decade. He is a Democrat dedicated to transformative policies focused on economic justice and development, climate justice, and creating a fairer education system. Below are some of the reasons voters in the district want to keep Jamaal as their Congressman.

  • He wrote and passed a resolution condemning the “great replacement theory” – a right wing radical conspiracy rooted in hate, racism, antisemitism, and xenophobia.
  • He has prioritized calling for more mental health resources for our communities, especially our school children.
  • He worked with Senator Schumer to bring in $88 million for flood protection to the district.
  • He is endorsed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Kirsten Gillibrand.
  • He secured four vaccination sites in the district within his first 100 days in office.
  • He worked with Governor Hochul to bring in millions of dollars for community violence protection.
